Do you know why the Central Park in New York City was built? To provide urban dwellers an experience of the country side, a place to escape from the stressors of urban life and to commune with nature.
It's true that we seek out the wilderness to relax and unwind. We do this unknowingly, adorning our walls with pictures of landscapes and dressing our sideboards with fresh cut flowers from the garden. Weather we notice it or not, the wilderness is in us all. Our owner, Chelsea, studied to be an Outdoor Education Teacher because she believe's without wilderness we live in a world that's lost it's ability to heal. Unfortunately, within a 12 year teaching career, Chelsea taught Outdoor Education once. We are living in a time of disconnect. We don't know how to look after the land that we have nor do we understand how to give back to it. Our generation appreciates sitting under the shade of a tree, but doesn't understand how the tree got there. That's pretty disconnected.

An equal level of disconnection can be witnessed when we ask some where their food comes from... "the supermarket?" they answer. Agriculture feeds and clothes the world, yet, our government doesn't mandate that Agriculture is taught in schools. How did we get here?

With education still being a huge passion of Chelsea's, combined with her love of all things plants and animals, Bushes and Beans is opening the GARDEN AND FARM SCHOOL. Although, the school is currently in a phase of building, you can expect sessions to run during school hours for children aged 3 to 5 years and after school for school aged children. Our shop front and cafe will be available to caregivers to relax with a coffee and cake, or to read a book by the fire while we have the best time with your little learners. However, caregivers are welcome to join in, as we will have lots of fun.
