WELCOME TO BUSHES AND BEANS - A DREAM COME TRUE

Firstly hello! And, thank you for stopping by to read our welcome blog. I'm Chelsea, new co-owner of Bushes and Beans along with my husband, Brenten. We are so thrilled to have been granted the opportunity to purchase Bushes and Beans from Jenny. Owning a Plant Nursery and in our home town, has been a long term dream for us both and we are pinching ourselves that the opportunity came up. How, lucky are we?

Prior to Jenny establishing Bushes and Beans in 2020, the property and then 'Wild Mulberry Nursery' was owned and operated by Mel and Chris Whittlesea. We actually looked at purchasing the business when Mel and Chris put it on the market, however, I just wasn't finished with my Teaching Career, having studied a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) in 2012. Mel and Chris shut the doors and the building and surrounds sat vacant for some time. Until, Jenny revamped the space with help from her family and friends and built a thriving business which is Bushes and Beans.

In between looking at purchasing the Wild Mulberry Nursery and Jenny opening Bushes and Beans, I went on to teach Agriculture and Horticulture from Years 8 -12 at Keith Area School. This included competing at 5 Royal Adelaide Show's with a show team in Goats, Sheep and Cattle. Whilst this was my day job, in the back ground I was studying a Certificate in Nursery Management. I always knew I would own and operate a Plant Nursery one day, so I thought it best to know and understand how to do it correctly.

Growing up in Kaniva, myself and brother and sister were fortunate enough to have parents that gave us all the opportunity to play all the sports, with myself being particularly fond of swimming, hockey, gym training, dance and yoga. It was only natural that I would study to become a PE Teacher, Swimming Instructor, Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Remedial Massage Therapist. I worked in these professions for a good part of 20 years, and I still love it. My love and interest in plants and business just out grew my love of these other things.

I started a Swim School when I was 14, which I still own and operate, currently named Highway Swimming with Chelsea. I have gained personal beliefs around business in this time, and enjoy gambling in the business world. Having a 'business brain' allows one to be creative, think on their feet and challenge themselves. With the knowledge I have about plants, combined with my love of Horticulture and a background in business, I knew I could give the running of Bushes and Beans a red hot crack with the support of my husband Brenten.

Brenten works as the Spare Parts Manager at Tatiara Truck and Trailers and if anyone has met him, will tell you, her can sell snow to the eskimos (and talk under water with marbles in his mouth). So, he's a good business partner. Having managed staff and stock for 12 years, Brenten will compliment the areas of running Bushes and Beans which may not be my strengths.

And, so here we are! Your new owners of Bushes and Beans, Bordertown. We hope you will support us in this new endeavor and pop by for a coffee and buy a plant. And, please - if there is something we need to improve on, or you'd like to see us offer - let us know! We are here for the people of Bordertown.
